House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., raised about $10 million during the second quarter of the year in an effort to help House Republicans retain their majority in the midterm elections, USA Today is reporting.
The money was brought in through Team Ryan, his joint fundraising committee. In all, Team Ryan has raised more than $70 million in the election cycle, according to the newspaper.
Ryan announced his retirement earlier this year, sparking fears House Republicans could lose their financial edge, USA Today said.
"Following his retirement announcement, Speaker Ryan has kept his promise to run through the tape and lead political efforts for House Republicans," Kevin Seifert, executive director of Team Ryan, said.
The $10 million brought in by Ryan is less than the $11.1 million raised during the previous quarter. But the Congressional Leadership Fund, the super PAC that Ryan backs, raised $51 million during the second fundraising quarter. That figure is more than the group raised during the entire 2016 election cycle.
