House Speaker Paul Ryan said Tuesday that Republicans should go to their party's national convention in Cleveland in July because "I think everybody should participate."
"If they are a delegate they better not skip it," the Wisconsin congressman told CNN. "If you were planning on going to the convention, you should go."
Several top Republicans have said that they are not going to the four-day event at the Quicken Loans Arena amid growing talk of a contested convention.
Arizona Sen. John McCain said Tuesday that he would skip the parley because of his tight re-election race. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who quit the 2016 race in February, also said
he was sitting out the convention.
"I think we should go," Ryan said. "This is our convention — making our nominee, so I think everybody should participate."
