A Republican senator who opposed President Donald Trump's intervention in the Roger Stone case said he would like to see former national security adviser Michael Flynn be pardoned.
During an appearance on "The Chris Stigall Show" Wednesday, Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., weighed in on the case.
"I think Michael Flynn should be pardoned," Toomey said. "He has not been convicted of anything. The prosecutorial discretion that ought to be afforded to the Justice Department as it is in every other case — they recognize that he should not be prosecuted."
Toomey added that the Flynn case is "very different" from Stone's.
Flynn worked in the White House for less than a month before he was fired in February 2017 for lying about contacts he had with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. He was later charged with lying to FBI agents about the conversations, but after his sentencing was delayed several times, the Justice Department recently stepped in and said it was dropping all charges in the case.
Days before Stone was slated to report to prison for a 40-month sentence for witness tampering and lying to investigators, Trump commuted his sentence.
