An email that bitterly undercuts House Speaker Paul Ryan's Obamacare replacement bill was reportedly blasted out to North Carolina Republicans by the wife of House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows.
An aide to the lawmaker said Debbie Meadows' Monday email to 15 people – warning "Ryancare" will wind up "wrapped around Republicans' necks" – was sent without her lawmaker husband's knowledge, Politico reported.
In the email, she urged Repubicans to call Ryan's office and the White House to protest the House plan, Politico reported.
"In a nutshell, for reasons we cannot fathom, Republican leadership is putting forth a so-called Obamacare 'repeal' that is not a repeal at all," the email said, Politico reported.
"Leadership is selling it as a full repeal and has convinced many in the White House that it's terrific."
But she said the plan actually "will actually create a huge new government entitlement program and cost even more than Obamacare. It will end up being Ryancare and the disaster will be wrapped around Republicans' necks . . ."
According to Politico, the email highlights how divided the GOP remains as it tries to fulfill not only what was a top campaign pledge by President Donald Trump, but what other Republicans have been urging for years.
