Cynthia Nixon, the flame-haired star of "Sex in the City," says she is still giving serious consideration to a Democratic primary run against Gov. Andrew Cuomo this year.
"Many concerned New Yorkers have been encouraging Cynthia to run for office, and as she has said previously, she will continue to explore it," Nixon's spokeswoman Rebecca Capellan told CNN on Tuesday. "If and when such a decision is made, Cynthia will be sure to make her plans public."
The 51-year-old actress is best known for her portrayal of Miranda Hobbes, the frisky but cynical lawyer who romped through six seasons and two movies of "Sex and the City."
It was first hinted she was interested in the Empire State's top job last August when her associates told The Wall Street Journal she was mulling the idea.
If Nixon throws her hat in the ring against Cuomo, who is seeking a third term in November, she would be joining two other Democrats interested in the position, former Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner and former Hudson Valley Sen. Terry Gipson.
According to NY1, Nixon is assembling an exploratory staff that includes former advisors to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
If Nixon were elected, not only would she be New York's first female governor, but also its first gay one. Nixon, a mother of three, has been married to education activist Christine Marinoni since 2012.
She sparked a controversy that same year by stating, "I've been straight, and I've been gay, and gay is better," The New York Times reported.
