House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said North Korean leader Kim Jong Un emerged as the clear winner as a result of President Donald Trump’s cancellation of the planned summit between the two, the Washington Examiner is reporting.
"I think it's a good thing for Kim Jong Un," Pelosi noted, saying the cancellation elevated Kim's status. "They were on par with each other. He got global recognition and regard. He's the big winner.
"When he got this letter from the president saying 'OK, never mind' — he must be having a giggle fit right there in North Korea."
She claimed the president was not prepared for the meeting.
"This takes preparation," she said. "This takes knowledge. This takes judgment, and clearly this takes preparation, which the president didn't make."
Trump cancelled his meeting with Kim, citing the "tremendous anger and open hostility" in recent statements from Pyongyang.
In a letter to Kim, Trump said he felt it was "inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting." The summit had been scheduled for June 12 in Singapore.
