A day after House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called Republican Rep. Devin Nunes "deeply compromised," she continued to knock the California lawmaker Thursday for revealing information that alleged people close to President Donald Trump may have been spied on last year.
"By being a stooge of the president of the United States, he has demonstrated very clearly that there is no way there can be an impartial investigation under his leadership on that committee," Pelosi said, reports The Hill.
Nunes, who chairs the House Intelligence Committee, briefed reporters on Capitol Hill about what he knew regarding the surveillance accusations Wednesday, and then traveled down the street to the White House to tell both the president and the White House press corps.
Democrats criticized him for both revealing the information — which one senator said might actually be classified — and for going around his own committee to talk to Trump and the media.
On Wednesday, Pelosi said Nunes is unfit to lead any sort of investigation into the surveillance claims.
"Chairman Nunes is deeply compromised, and he cannot possibly lead an honest investigation," she said in a statement. "Congress must create a comprehensive, independent, bipartisan commission to expose the full truth of the Trump-Russia connection."
