The wife of MSNBC host Chris Matthews suffered a stinging defeat in Maryland's 8th Congressional District Democratic primary — but her loss was never mentioned by the cable news network, the
Washington Examiner reports.
MSNBC's sole mention of Kathleen Matthews' candidacy came when Chuck Todd reported she was one of three people in the race to succeed outgoing Rep. Chris Van Hollen. There was no mention later of Matthews' trouncing by State Sen. Jamie Raskin, The Examiner said.
As well,
Newsbusters.org reported, Chris Matthews was briefly mentioned by Brian Williams as being "off tonight attending to family business" but never disclosed it was because of Kathleen's campaign.
Last year, Chris Matthews pledged to viewers that viewers need not worry about transparency on his MSNBC "Hardball" show if wife Kathleen ran for office.
