Democrat candidates hold the lead in three out of four races for congressional districts in Iowa, according to the latest poll from Monmouth University released on Thursday.
Monmouth found that in the 1st District, incumbent Rep. Abby Finkenauer, a Democrat, leads GOP state Rep. Ashley Hinson 52% to 44%. In the 2nd District, the Democrat candidate to succeed retiring Democrat Rep. Dave Loebsack, Rita Hart holds a six-point lead over Republican candidate Mariannette Miller-Meeks, 49% to 43%. The 3rd District’s Rep. Cindy Axne, a Democrat, has a strong nine-point lead over Republican former Rep. David Young, 52% to 43%.
Only in Iowa’s 4th District does a Republican, state Sen. Randy Feenstra, lead a Democrat, J. D. Scholten. Feenstra, who leads by six points, 48% to 42%, ousted incumbent Republican Rep. Steve King earlier this year after the congressman was met with a series of controversies.
“Democrats appear to be on track to retain the three House seats they currently hold and are making a run in a deep red district,” said Patrick Murray, the director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute, in a statement.
Monmouth surveyed 1,547 registered voters in Iowa from Oct. 15-20, 2020, and the poll's margin of error is between plus or minus 4.8 and 5.2 percentage points, depending on the district.
