Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday that Russia special counsel Robert Mueller "should be able to finish his job," despite tweets slamming his efforts by President Donald Trump in recent days.
"I agree with the president's lawyers that Bob Mueller should be able to finish his job," the Kentucky Republican told reporters.
"I believe it was a good appointment, and he will go where the facts lead him and will have credibility with the American people when he reaches the conclusion of this investigation.
"I have a lot of confidence in him."
Trump has ripped Mueller and the probe on Twitter since Saturday, after news reports disclosed the special counsel had provided his attorneys with a list of questions in seeking an interview with the president.
John Dowd, Trump's personal lawyer, told The Daily Beast on Saturday he hoped fired FBI Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein would end Mueller's investigation, though later clarified he was speaking for himself and not the president.
