Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell trolled Rep. Charles Schumer’s reported request that President Donald Trump tap Merrick Garland for the Supreme Court — tweeting a GIF of NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan in a laughing fit.
Garland was nominated to the nation’s high court by former President Barack Obama in 2016, but the pick was delayed by the Kentucky Republican, who argued a justice shouldn't be confirmed during an election year.
Democrats are using the same line on McConnell now after he declared the Senate would vote on Trump’s nominee to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy before November’s midterm elections.
The Hill pointed out it was McConnell’s second Twitter slap at Democrats after the Supreme Court upheld Trump's travel ban, McConnell posted a photo in which he shared a handshake with conservative Justice Neil Gorsuch, who sided with the majority in upholding the ban.
Trump is expected to pick a new nominee on July 9.
