Trump campaign officials say President Donald Trump will win Minnesota because voters there are fed up with local Democrat leaders amid an uptick in violence, reports Fox News.
"The riots in Minneapolis and the impact and devastation and all of the fallout that is continuing as we enter October are going to be on the ballot in Minnesota when voters go to the polls, whether they've already voted or will vote on Election Day," Minnesota GOP Chairwoman Jennifer Carnahan told Fox. "That is a top-of-mind issue for folks."
Trump still trails Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden in the battleground state by at least six percentage points in many major polls.
In Minneapolis, an unprecedented burst of violence followed George Floyd’s death on Memorial Day. Floyd, a Black man, died after a police officer held him down by putting a knee to his neck.
The incident sparked massive protests. At least 113 people were shot between May 25 and June 26, eight fatally, according to Minneapolis police, with hundreds of reports of gunfire across the city, including several shootings in broad daylight.
Trump in August put Minneapolis on a list of the most violent cities in America. Since June 23, he has repeatedly linked violence to cities run by Democrats.
''You hear about certain places like Chicago and you hear about what’s going on in Detroit and other, other cities, all Democrat-run,'' Trump said at the time. ''Every one of them is Democrat-run. Twenty out of 20. The 20 worst, the 20 most dangerous are Democrat-run."
Minnesota has a Democrat governor and two Democrat U.S. senators.
"If anyone can carry Minnesota, Trump can carry Minnesota, and if it doesn't happen this year, I'll be hard-pressed to think of a time when it could happen just because he is the right man for the situation that is happening in the Twin Cities," RNC committeeman Max Rymer told Fox. "You have a lot of silent Trump support that is happening right now in Minneapolis and in the Twin Cities."
