President Donald Trump is focused on peace regarding North Korea and nothing more, Vice President Mike Pence asserted Monday.
Pence spoke with Fox News and told anchor Martha MacCallum his boss isn't worried about optics when he was asked about reports that Trump is concerned the upcoming nuclear summit with North Korea could have a less-than-desirable result.
"I don't think President Trump is thinking about public relations. He's thinking about peace," Pence said. "He's thinking about how we achieve what has eluded successive American administrations.
"Truthfully, the Clinton administration, even the Bush administration, got played in the past. We offered concessions to the North Korean regime in exchange for promises to end their nuclear weapons program, only to see them break those promises and abandon them."
Pence also fired off a warning to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, saying he would be smart to listen to Trump.
"It would be a great mistake for Kim Jong Un to think he could play Donald Trump," Pence said.
