Vice President Mike Pence hailed President Donald Trump's selection of Gina Haspel to be the next CIA director, The Hill is reporting.
"I'm very excited about it because I know Gina real well and I couldn't be more proud of her," Pence said. "Gina Haspel is stepping up to lead our nation in this vital role."
His comments came Tuesday at the Women's History Month Celebration hosted by the Independent Women's Forum, according to The Hill.
Haspel would become the first female director of the CIA if confirmed.
She served as deputy director under Mike Pompeo, the president's pick to replace Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, CNN noted.
