Utah Sen. Mike Lee will run for the leadership of the Republican Policy Committee,
According to
Politico, Lee's run for the job has put him at odds with Republican leader Mitch McConnell, who backed Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso, the current holder of the job.
Barrasso's spokeswoman said he is "focused on keeping the Senate majority this fall," and he "continues to want to serve the Republican conference."
Lee, the chairman of the Republican Steering Committee, a forum that typically includes the most conservative Republicans, arrived in the Senate in 2010 as part of the tea party movement. He defeated three-term Utah incumbent Bob Bennett.
He has been vocal for policy reforms, including putting together a conservative reform agenda that deals with taxes, higher education, and welfare reform.
Lee is a favorite among conservatives for a position on the U.S. Supreme Court,
The Washington Post reported.
