If elected president, Donald Trump will end the pattern of a government that makes "stupid policy decisions," retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn said Wednesday.
"I think what we have to do is make sure we get the American public to understand we're not going to make stupid decisions," Flynn, now an adviser with the Trump campaign, told Fox News'
"America's Newsroom" program. "Let's not kid ourselves about some dumb strategic decisions that were made in the last 15 years," particularly in Libya and Iraq.
"We saw what occurred after we made a political decision to get out of Iraq in 2011 that really led to the rise of ISIS," Flynn said. And as a result, groups like al-Qaida and ISIS "are now forming inside Libya and causing mayhem inside of Europe."
Flynn, a lifelong Democrat, said he became a Trump supporter because he has "bought into
making America great again."
"That is what I bought into, this notion of America, if America isn't around, Bill, what will take its place?" Flynn asked. "What will take its place? And that's the, that is the big notion."
"People can't sit this one out. They have to get involved. They have to make a big decision. In my case, the decision is I want this country to be made whole and unified again."
