Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg is helping Democrats target Latino voters in Florida in his effort to assist Democrat Joe Biden win the presidency.
Politico reported that Bloomberg and the Latino Victory Fund are joining forces for a digital advertising campaign with a $2.4 million budget. The ads will be geared toward Latinos in Florida, a key swing state in next month's presidential election.
"Voter turnout among Latinos in Florida could mean the difference for a Biden-Harris win in Florida," Bloomberg told Politico.
Unlike the Trump campaign, the Biden campaign has opted not to canvass neighborhoods and knock on doors to court voters because of the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, it is utilizing technology to reach voters.
Politico notes that Latinos are 17% of Florida's electorate, so the Latino Victory Fund is working to convince these key voters to make sure they cast a ballot — whether in person or through the mail.
Last month, it was reported that Bloomberg's Independence USA PAC kicked off a $40 million ad buy in Florida to help Biden.
The billionaire businessman was a Republican while he served as mayor but became a Democrat in 2018. He announced his candidacy for president in November 2019 but dropped out of the race in March.
