Dems Lead in Effort to Reclaim Governorships in Michigan, New Mexico

Democrats are leading in the latest Emerson poll released on Monday to reclaim the Governorships in both Michigan and New Mexico.

In Michigan, Democrat Gretchen Whitmer leads Republican Bill Schuette 52 percent to 41 percent, with 4 percent undecided. Women are giving her the edge, as Whitmore leads 57 percent to 36 percent among female voters, while Schuette has a slim lead with males, 47 percent to 46 percent.

In New Mexico, Democrat Michelle Lujan Grisham leads Steve Pearce 53 percent to 44 percent, with 4 percent undecided.

Other results from the Emerson poll include:

  • Democratic incumbents are doing well in polling for US Senate races in New Mexico, New Jersey and Michigan. In New Jersey, Sen. Bob Menendez leads his Republican challenger Bob Hugin 47 percent to 42 percent, with 7 percent undecided.
  • In the Michigan Senate race, Sen. Debbie Stabenow leads GOP challenger John James 52 percent to 43 percent, with 4 percent undecided.
  • In New Mexico, Sen. Martin Heinrich leads in his attempt to win re-election to the Senate, with 48 percent against 32 percent from the Republican challenger Mick Rich and 16 percent from Libertarian Gary Johnson, with 6 percent undecided.

The polls involving Michigan have a margin of error of 3.6 percent, while those in New Jersey have a 4 percent margin of error and the races in New Mexico a 3.4 percent margin of error.
