The top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee blasted President Donald Trump’s removal of U.S. troops from the Syrian border, calling it another example in which “Russia ends up winning.”
In an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., said “All roads lead to Russia with the president.”
“What the president did is a betrayal of the Kurds… of our ally, the state of Israel,” he said.
“It's a betrayal of our foreign policy to the Russians who are the big winners of this… every time that there is an issue or a conflict, it seems that Russia ends up winning,” he added.
Menendez also refuted Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s claim that he’s not against his foreign service officers testifying in the House impeachment inquiry.
“The Secretary and the State Department have done everything humanly possible to impede, obstruct and not to provide information,” Menendez charged.
“Now his call for being present, all he's ever said is ‘no’ … in the pursuit of the House's information, all he's ever said is ‘no,’ obstruct, delay and ultimately not cooperate. So his desire now to cooperate is pretty amazing.”
