Rep. Marsha Blackburn, after winning her race to become Tennessee's first elected female senator, had a message Wednesday for pop star Taylor Swift, who'd strongly opposed her election.
"I hope Taylor will shake it off, that she and her supporters will know that they have an open door with me " the Republican senator-elect told Fox News' "Fox and Friends," referring to Swift's hit "Shake it Off." "I have dealt with songwriters, taxation issues, the Music Modernization Act. I've been more supportive of the music industry than any member of Congress. So there is plenty of areas for common ground. We look forward to working with them."
Swift in October broke her silence on political issues, saying she opposed Blackburn's candidacy.
Blackburn added that she's been facing challenges all her life and knew it would not be easy to win in Tennessee.
"We knew that Tennesseans were very specific in they wanted a conservative in the U.S. Senate," said Blackburn. "We knew they wanted someone who was going to vote for constitutional judges, lower taxes, less regulation, to defend the Second Amendment.
Meanwhile, Blackburn said that she does think that there is a chance for bipartisanship now that Democrats have reclaimed the house, if they try.
"If Nancy Pelosi really is interested in bipartisanship, my hope would be that she would work with us," said Blackburn. "The only DACA bill that has ever passed the House is mine. It has passed the House twice. She should work with us."
