A pro-Trump super PAC that has spent more than $150,000 to help Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., in her bid to win a Senate seat is pledging to spend even more.
The Committee to Defend the President congratulated Blackburn for her victory in Thursday's Republican primary. In a press release, the group said it will continue to support her as she pursues the seat that will soon be vacated by the retiring Republican Sen. Bob Corker.
"The Committee to Defend the President is willing to do whatever it takes to propel Marsha to the Senate," spokeswoman Amanda Head said.
"Whereas [Democratic candidate] Phil Bredesen is a poster child for the failed Obama policies of the past, Marsha is a champion for the conservative reforms that Tennesseans overwhelmingly supported in 2016. She will be a valuable partner for President Trump on his quest to make America great again."
The organization's financial investments in Blackburn's primary campaign were in the form of direct contributions, opposition research, a grassroots program and other efforts.
"Leading up to the general election in November, the Committee is ready to increase its financial support and expand its grassroots activity to push Blackburn across the finish line," the Committee said in the release.
Blackburn earned more than 84 percent of the vote in this week's primary to defeat Aaron Pettigrew. She will face Bredesen, who garnered more than 91 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary, in the November general election.
Blackburn's resounding victory drew praise from President Donald Trump, who tweeted his congratulations Friday afternoon.
