Rep. Mark Meadows, as one of eight House Republicans named Monday to defend President Donald Trump as his impeachment trial continues, said Tuesday that he and his fellow lawmakers want to "bring the truth" to Americans.
"When they see the truth they will know that the president not only did anything wrong but certainly did everything right, as we see with the speech in Davos, Switzerland," the North Carolina Republican told Fox News' "Fox and Friends."
He added that was at "each and every deposition" during the House impeachment inquiry, and he rejected arguments from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer that a proposed resolution from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell concerning rules for the procedures constitutes a cover-up from Republicans.
"I can tell you when we were in the House it was an unfair process there," said Meadows. "Where were the Democrat senators? They were on the Senate side, at the Senate lunchroom, sipping lattes, congratulating themselves on (their) fair process."
He also complained that Senate Democrats plan to "suggest that they actually need more witnesses," but he doesn't know "of a single Democrat senator who has personally read each deposition and all the evidence that's actually before them."
Republican senators, however, are "real serious," said Meadows, noting that House Republicans have been providing their senate counterparts with information.
"We have this outrage from Democrat senators suggesting that somehow they need a plethora of new information," he said. "We've already had 5 people that said there was not a crime."
