Pot proponents hope they have a friend in the White House with Donald Trump.
In an interview with the Daily Caller, Tom Angell of the Marijuana Majority predicted "going against the tide of history" would not be a problem Trump would likely take on.
"President-Elect Trump has clearly and repeatedly pledged to respect state marijuana laws, and we fully expect him to follow through on those promises," Angell told the Daily Caller. "Reversing course and going against the tide of history would present huge political problems that the new administration does not need."
On Tuesday, voters okayed legalization of medical marijuana in Florida, Arkansas and North Dakota, the Daily Caller reported, adding that voters in California, Nevada, Massachusetts and Maine all approved measures to legalize pot for recreational use.
The federal government doesn't recognize its legality in the states, but Trump has already promised as president, he'd defer to states on the issue, the Daily Caller reported.
According to the Daily Caller, marijuana advocates are circling a petition to hold Trump to his campaign vow.
