As the country gets moving again and gets back to work, people will see President Donald Trump's leadership and the poll numbers in his reelection bid will swing back his way, Marc Lotter, the director of strategic communications for Trump's 2020 campaign, told Newsmax TV Tuesday.
"Because we are in more of a crisis setting, that's having an impact on the polls,' Lotter said in an interview on Newsmax TV's "Spicer & Co.," where he appeared with Roger Fisk, a longtime aide and campaign strategist for former President Barack Obama.
"I think it's something that will shake itself out as we emerge from this crisis," Lotter also said.
His comments come after the presumptive Democratic nominee told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos that he considers his campaign a success, even though it's being done from behind closed doors, and noted that he's ahead in the race, according to polling data.
"Joe Biden saying this is a success is really laughable," said Lotter. " I mean he was widely mocked and ridiculed in mainstream media for his online event earlier and in Florida. And as I don't see how you can see this is a success."
Fisk said he thinks there is frustration from both Trump and Biden, as any campaign wants to be out on the trail, "all the way down to the most elemental form of American politics, which is, you know, one person knocking on another person's door."
He added that Biden is mostly likely benefitting from his own name recognition, and he finds it interesting that Trump's poll numbers go up when he's not in the news.
Spicer said that Stephanopoulos asked Biden soft questions, including on the matter of the FBI's investigation of Trump's first national security adviser, Michael Flynn.
"The topics were covered," said Lotter. "He did push back on one area, but Biden had an opportunity to clean the record up."
Biden initially said he didn't know anything about the Flynn investigation, but when asked about a Jan. 5, 2017 meeting he had attended, changed his response to say he knew about the investigation, but wasn't involved in Flynn's prosecution.
"It was more of a check the box kind of an interview," said Lotter.
