A New Jersey teacher who reportedly shelled out $300,000 of her own money to run as a Democrat against Republican Rep. Leonard Lance has suddenly withdrawn from the race.
Lisa Mandelblatt, who substitute teaches in the Westfield elementary school system, is now supporting fellow Democrat and former rival Tom Malinowski because she said he shares her values and can win.
"He’s not a woman and he tells terrible dad jokes. But I have heard him in forum after forum state his eagerness to fight for women and stand up for progressive values in Washington," Mandelblatt said, according to tapinto.net.
"There is nothing more important than beating Lance in November, and I will do everything I can on behalf of Tom or whoever it may be to do so."
NJ Advance Media reports that Mandelblatt, one of seven Democrats seeking their party's nomination, had invested $300,000 in her bid to topple Lance, who has represented the Garden State’s 7th congressional district since 2009.
Mandelblatt’s campaign website stated she had entered the race because she was “appalled to see Donald Trump elected with three million fewer votes than Hillary Clinton and only 46 percent of the total vote” and “decided to do something to fight back."
Lance has served New Jersey's 7th congressional district since 2009.
