President Donald Trump is "very frustrated" by special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, Sen. Lindsey Graham said Sunday.
In an interview with ABC News’ “This Week,” the South Carolina Republican also asserted Mueller will “get to the bottom” of a New York Times report that Trump almost fired Mueller last June.
"We're not going to stop looking at the president because he claims … ‘fake news.’ We're not going to convict him because of a news article,” Graham said. “I think Mr. Mueller is the perfect guy to get to the bottom of this.”
"He feels frustrated,” Graham said of Trump’s attitude toward the Mueller probe of Russia meddling in the election, and possible collusion with the Trump campaign. “He's being accused of something he didn't do. He's a very frustrated man.”
Yet, he said, Trump should talk to his lawyers before speaking to the special counsel.
“Mr. Mueller will do his jobs, he’ll follow the evidence where it leads,” Graham said. “If the president wants to talk to Mr. Mueller, before he makes that decision, if I were him, I would talk to my lawyers."
