A victory for Republican Senate nominee Roy Moore in Alabama's special election Tuesday would be a "gift that keeps on giving for Democrats" in the 2018 midterm elections, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told CNN's "Newsroom" on Monday.
Sen. Graham told CNN "to think you can elect Roy Moore without getting the baggage of Roy Moore is pretty naive."
Graham emphasized if Moore wins a Senate seat then every Republican running in 2018 will "be asked about 10,000 times 'what do you think about Roy Moore?' Roy Moore will be the gift that keeps on giving for Democrats. It will define the 2018 election."
"From a political point of view, there is no winning with Roy Moore in my view," Graham added.
Graham said he had wanted Moore to step down from running for the seat following sexual misconduct allegations, but now the voters of Alabama must decide.
If he is elected, then Graham said Moore must be seated as a senator, but then "there'll be an Ethics Committee investigation. And if the Ethics Committee in a bipartisan manner supports the allegations of these women, that he in fact is a child molester, then my view is that's inconsistent with being a member of the body, but there’ll be due process offered Mr. Moore if he wins."
Graham added: "I'll have a hard time, quite frankly, keeping someone in the body that molested a child, but we will see what happens."
