South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham fired off a series of tweets Thursday blasting Donald Trump's comments about NATO, saying such statements "make the U.S. less safe."
In a
New York Times interview Wednesday, the Republican presidential candidate suggested that if elected president, he may not fulfill the guarantee of U.S. military support to the 28 members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization unless they "reasonably reimburse" the United States.
Graham took to Twitter:
Ojars Kalnins, who chairs the foreign affairs committee in Latvia's parliament, said in an interview with Latvian radio Trump's statements are
"dangerous and irresponsible."
Graham called on Trump to clear up any apparent misconceptions about his statements and hopes the he would do it "when the world is watching," during his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland Thursday night.
Graham has rebuked Trump's comments before, including calling him a "race-baiting, xenophobic religious bigot," according to
Mother Jones.
