Maine Republican Gov. Paul LePage may face a challenge next year from Rep. Mike Michaud, a Democrat who represents the Pine Tree State’s second congressional district.
Michaud told
Politico he is “looking at” a run against LePage, who assumed Maine’s top office in 2011.
In a follow-up interview with the Bangor Daily News, Michaud said he still has to "figure out where I might best represent the people of Maine. There are a lot of things we have to consider. I am looking at all the options.”
The six-term congressman said several people have asked him to run.
A Public Policy Polling survey released in January could also help influence his decision. The poll found that Michaud would lead LePage by almost 20 percentage points in a two-person contest.
