Reactions from the legal community came in quickly Tuesday night for the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch for the next Supreme Court justice.
The Wall Street Journal reported Harvard Law School professor Laurence Tribe called the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals judge "extremely smart" and someone who "knows federal law and procedure inside and out."
And, Tribe wrote in an email to the newspaper, Gorsuch "totally idolizes the late Justice [Antonin] Scalia and what he identifies as Scalia's almost regal indifference to the practical human consequences of his rulings."
Edward Whelan, president of the Ethics & Public Policy Center – a former clerk to the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia – told the Journal, Gorsuch was "outstanding pick."
"His judicial record reveals a brilliant jurist and a dedicated textualist who writes with force and verve," Whelan told the Journal.
"He has been a great protector of religious liberty, and he has keen insights on the challenges posed by the administrative state."
