President Donald Trump's Oval Office address this week condemning political violence and the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol came a bit too late for White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow's liking.
"I was hoping that he would come out quickly and make statements calling everybody back and stopping the violence," White House National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow told The Wall Street Journal, adding the president's criticism of Vice President Mike Pence left Kudlow "very disappointed in the president."
Trump has maintained he wanted peaceful protests – and did tell his rally supporters to go home on the day of the demonstration that left five dead – but Kudlow has taken issue with the president rejecting the election results because it incited his most fervent supporters.
"Once the Electoral College declared Mr. Biden to be president-elect, we would have been better advised to acknowledge that and to pivot toward talking about our positive achievements and the policies that generated those policy achievements," Kudlow told the Journal.
Still, Kudlow stood fast to remain in the administration, despite public calls for mass resignations, saying he vowed to complete his work as a patriotic duty, calling it the "job of a lifetime," the Journal reported.
"I think President Trump will go down in history as the president who changed our policies and woke up to the fact that China was becoming more of a competitor and moving into the area of an enemy," Kudlow told the Journal.
