Americans for Prosperity is set to launch an advertising campaign targeting both Republican and Democratic lawmakers who voted in favor of the $1.3 trillion spending package, The Hill is reporting.
The group, backed by billionaire donors Charles and David Koch, is set to get its six-figure advertising blitz underway as lawmakers return home for Memorial Day weekend, according to The Hill. The campaign will consist of radio, print, digital and direct ads.
Generally, the Koch network is supportive of Republicans, but it is believed to be disappointed by the GOP-led Congress for failure to move on some legislative priorities, including immigration reform, The Hill noted.
"It's time to take a hard look at what lawmakers say, and what they actually do when it comes to reining in overspending," said AFP spokesman Bill Riggs.
"The $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill passed by Congress in March showed a complete disregard for fiscal responsibility. Both parties are responsible for putting the country on an unsustainable fiscal path, which is why AFP is committed to holding both parties accountable."
Republicans targeted by the ad campaign are Reps. Hal Rogers (Kentucky), Lou Barletta (Pennsylvania), Mike Bishop (Michigan), Mike Simpson (Idaho), John Carter (Texas), Robert Aderholt (Alabama), Mark Amodei (Nevada), Jeff Fortenberry (Nebraska), Tom Rooney (Florida), and Ken Calvert (California.).
And the Democrats include Reps. Stephanie Murphy (Florida), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Florida), Pete Visclosky (Indiana.), Henry Cuellar (Texas), Matt Cartwright (Pennsylvania), Beto O'Rourke (Texas), and Tom O'Halleran (Arizona)
The group will also run ads thanking Republican lawmakers who voted against the bill, The Hill said.
Trump had signed the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill in March, adverting a federal shutdown and keeping the government operating through the end of the current fiscal year, Sept. 30. The spending deal gave him only $1.6 billion to begin building and replacing segments of a wall along the border with Mexico.
