House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said Sunday congressional Republicans are on track to pass tax reform legislation next week — heeding President Donald Trump's Christmas deadline.
McCarthy predicted smooth ride for the tax plan to Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures" as it goes to a conference committee.
"The House and Senate have two different bills — structurally they're pretty similar," McCarthy said. "They're going to work out those differences — hopefully they can get that done this week."
"We come back the next week and vote on it," he said. "I feel very confident we're going to get this done."
The House and Senate each have passed $1.4 trillion-plus tax-cut packages that would reduce the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 20 percent, trim individual rates, and eliminate some exemptions and deductions.
Negotiators from both chambers are hashing out the differences between the two plans in a conference committee — including a repeal of Obamacare's individual mandate, a provision the House measure does not call for.
