Former White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Thursday questioned why Democrats want to call the presidential election as soon as possible despite President Donald Trump’s previous calls to declare a winner on election night.

“They spent three years investigating the president, impeaching the president,” Conway said on “Fox & Friends” Thursday morning. “We can’t wait three hours, three days, three weeks, to get a result in our great, sturdy democracy as to whom the president will be? What is the rush all of a sudden?”

Just a week before Election Day, Trump said it would be “totally inappropriate” and possibly illegal to continue counting ballots past the day of the election, which PolitiFact notes is false. He also said that mail-in ballots pose “big problems,” and said: “Must have final total on November 3rd.”

“Why are we in such a rush to finish this election prematurely?” Conway, Trump’s 2016 campaign manager, added. “Let’s be patient, let’s take a deep breath, let’s count every legal vote. I think it’s a time to be methodical and not emotional.”

Now trailing in key battleground states, Trump has demanded a hold on the count, and has said that any vote that “came in” after Election Day should not count. Trump himself has already declared victory in the election.
