Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., a leading candidate to be the state’s next attorney general, on Sunday denied allegations that he abused an ex-girlfriend, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

The woman’s son posted on Facebook Saturday night that the abuse was caught on video, but Ellison said no such recording exists “because I never behaved in this way, and any characterization otherwise is false.

"Karen and I were in a relationship which ended in 2016, and I still care deeply for her well-being," he said in a statement.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that Austin Aslim Monahan said he watched a video on his mother’s computer of Ellison dragging her off a bed as he screamed profanities at her.

Karen Monahan confirmed her son’s account on Twitter, according to the Hill.

Ellison, a six-term congressman, announced in June his plans to step down from Congress and run for attorney general. He faces four other Democrats in a primary on Tuesday to determine the party's nominee for AG.
