White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany Monday ridiculed former special counsel Robert Mueller over his weekend opinion piece that defended his investigation into Russian collusion in the 2016 presidential election and his declaration that Roger Stone remains a felon, even if President Donald Trump commuted his sentence.
"What did Robert Mueller have to do to justify his investigation, [which was] a waste of taxpayer dollars, a waste of America's time?" McEnany said on Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "He had to come up with process crimes, which is exactly what was done in the case of Roger Stone."
In his opinion piece for The Washington Post, Mueller wrote that he felt compelled to "respond both to broad claims that our investigation was illegitimate and our motives were improper, and to specific claims that Roger Stone was a victim of our office.
"The Russia investigation was of paramount importance. Stone was prosecuted and convicted because he committed federal crimes. He remains a convicted felon, and rightly so," Mueller wrote.
"He had to defend his taxpayer-wasted investigation on taxpayer dollars, millions and millions wasted on a Russia hoax theory that found no collusion," McEnany said in response Monday.
"What about Andrew McCabe who lied to federal investigators, what about John Brennan who lied before Congress," she added. "These individuals get away scot-free."
She also declared that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., was "actually right" with his comments that the nation has a "two-tiered justice system," even if he was "just wrong on the facts."
"The two-tiered justice system completely discriminates against the Trump administration," she said.
