Republican congressional candidate Katie Arrington said Tuesday credited her victory over incumbent Rep. Mark Sanford, R-S.C., in last week's primary to the last-minute endorsement she received from President Donald Trump.
Sanford, a vocal critic of Trump, lost his primary bid to Arrington, a state representative who campaigned heavily on his opposition to the president, even running ads that featured clips of Sanford's remarks.
"South Carolina was ready for a change," Arrington told "Fox & Friends" host Steve Doocy on Tuesday. "It was something that we needed. I've knocked on thousands of doors, and people said it's time for a change."
She added Trump "is doing a phenomenal job," and "There's no blue wave washing on the shores of South Carolina.
"We are a strong red state," Arrington continued. "We believe in the conservative values President Trump has. And overwhelmingly you saw that in this past primary season, without a doubt."
Arrington faces Democrat Joe Cunningham in the general election this November.
