Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., blasted President Donald Trump on Twitter for invoking George Floyd's name during his speech on the state of the economy Friday.
Harris tweeted at the president:
"Keep George Floyd's name out of your mouth until you can say Black Lives Matter."
During his speech about the unemployment rate decreasing as the country reopens from the coronavirus pandemic, Trump said it was a "a great day" for George Floyd. Floyd, a black man, was killed by a white police officer in Minneapolis last week.
Trump made the comments during a press conference in the Rose Garden. He said a strong economy will help race relations.
"We all saw what happened last week," Trump said. "We can't let that happen. Hopefully George is looking down right now and saying this is a great thing that's happening for our country. This is a great day for him, it's a great day for everybody. This is a great day for everybody. This is a great, great day in terms of equality."
