President Donald Trump's critics have pounced to condemn his Sunday tweets telling progressives to "go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came."
Rep. Justin Amash, I-Mich., who left the Republican Party in opposition to the president, continued his campaign against President Trump, rebuking the remarks as "racist and disgusting."
"To tell these American citizens (most of whom were born here) to 'go back' to the 'crime infested places from which they came' is racist and disgusting."
Even House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who President Trump had attempted to come to the defense of amid a rift with four "women of color" within the Democratic Party, condemned the president for allegedly trying to "make America white again," tweeting:
"When @realDonaldTrump tells four American Congresswomen to go back to their countries, he reaffirms his plan to 'Make America Great Again' has always been about making America white again.
"Our diversity is our strength and our unity is our power."
