U.S. District Judge William Alsup cited President Donald Trump's posts on Twitter in his decision to block of the administration's plans to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, The Washington Post reported.
"We seem to be in the unusual position wherein the ultimate authority over the agency, the Chief Executive, publicly favors the very program the agency has ended," the judge wrote in a 49-page order, The Post reported.
The judge wrote that tweets from Trump seemed to capture the benefits of DACA remaining in place, The Post's report said.
Tweets cited by the judge include two from September, The Post reported.
In the judge's order, he noted that the plaintiffs suggested Trump was using the DACA program to demand funding for a U.S-Mexico border wall.
"A presidential tweet after our hearing gives credence to this claim," Alsup wrote, The Post said, citing a Dec. 29 tweet from Trump:
Alsup blocked the administration's action on DACA in a Tuesday night ruling, granting a request from the state of California and other plaintiffs. The judge said that lawyers who support DACA demonstrated that immigrants in the program "were likely to suffer serious, irreparable harm" without court action.
