Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., told Fox News on Thursday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is trying to “remake Western civilization” with the coronavirus relief bill, which he says “shocked” Republicans.
“Her bill is so grandiose. It’s not a coronavirus bill. It’s basically a 'remake Western civilization' bill,” Kennedy, who sits on the Senate Budget Committee, told “Hannity.” Members of the GOP were “shocked” at the bill, which cannot pass the Senate, according to him.
“If she takes it back to the Ocasio-Cortez wing in the House, they’re not going to support it, so I think she overplayed her hand here,” the senator said, referring to the well-known progressive Democrat from New York, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Kennedy previously said there was a “less than 50% chance of passing another bill” for coronavirus relief, and that any attempt to pass another relief bill would “receive serious pushback from both Republicans and Democrats in both houses for a variety of reasons.”
