Former national security adviser John Bolton reportedly praised the government officials who gave testimony in the House inquiry that led to President Donald Trump’s impeachment, The Week reports.
During a question-and-answer segment after giving the keynote speech at a private event in Austin, Texas on Thursday, Bolton said that the five officials who testified had all "acted in the best interest of the country as they saw it and consistent to what they thought our policies are,” according to Austin-based NBC affiliate KXAN.
He added that Trump administration officials ought to “feel they’re able to speak their minds without retribution,” and said, “the idea that somehow testifying to what you think is true is destructive to the system of government we have — I think, is very nearly the reverse — the exact reverse of the truth.”
President Donald Trump recently hit out at Bolton, claiming that the United States “would be in World War Six by now,” if he had listened to his former national security adviser, and claiming that Bolton “begged” for a job where he wouldn’t have to be approved by the Senate.
Bolton was appearing at a private client luncheon at the invitation of Luther King Capitol Management, an investment management company. The event had the title, “Foreign Challenges Facing the Trump Administration.”
