President Donald Trump said Thursday he is "100 percent" confident in Rep. Jim Jordan's, R-Ohio, denial he knew about sex abuse on a wrestling team he coached.
"I don't believe them at all – I believe him," Trump said of the claims against the conservative lawmaker, The Hill reported. "Jim Jordan is one of the most outstanding people I've met since I've been in Washington. I believe him 100 percent. No question in my mind."
A fourth former Ohio State University wrestler came forward Thursday, telling NBC News that Jordan, as assistant coach, knew the team's doctor was sexually abusing student athletes but didn't do anything to stop it.
Dr. Richard Strauss, who died in 2005, would allegedly shower with the athletes and inappropriately touch them during appointments, according to NBC News, which first reported Tuesday that three former wrestlers said Jordan would have had to have known about it.
The fourth former Buckeye wrestler told the news outlet he told Jordan directly about it.
"What happened drove me out of the sport," the former athlete, Shawn Dailey, told NBC News. "So, I was surprised to hear Jim say that he knew nothing about it. Jimmy's a good guy. But to say that he had no knowledge of it, I would say that's kind of hurtful."
Jordan told Politico he "would have done something about it" had he known of the abuse.
"And look, if there are people who are abused, then that's terrible and we want justice to happen," he added in his remarks to Politico.
