Jerry Brown: Hillary's Front-Runner Status Comes with Risks

By    |   Sunday, 18 May 2014 08:18 PM EDT

While it's good to be on top, it also makes you an easy target.

California Gov. Jerry Brown, appearing Sunday on ABC's "This Week,"  noted that Hillary Clinton is the "overwhelming favorite" for the Democratic nomination for president in 2016, even though she has not formally announced.

"I can't see any opposition, not even potential opposition," Brown said. "It — whether it's a good thing or not — it does carry with it risks. Being a front-runner is being on a perch that everyone else is going to try to knock you off of."

Brown ran against Clinton's husband, Bill, for the 1992 Democratic nomination, and he stayed in the race all the way to the convention because he didn't think Clinton should receive a "coronation."

So far, Brown sees no one playing such a role against Hillary Clinton, but the elections are still two years away.
