Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., said Democrats have a very good chance to save Obamacare.
"I think we have a very good chance of keeping the [Affordable Care Act] in place," he said on CNN's "New Day" on Thursday. "And the reason why is the basic elements."
"Now this is what the Republicans are struggling with: They're at a loss with what to do.
"They have set up this false story about a government takeover, and it turns out that the actual elements, one-by-one, are quite popular with America, and they're at a loss of what to do."
Merkley maintained repealing Obamacare would "take down" healthcare for 20 million people and impact the integrity of insurance policies for other Americans.
Meanwhile, The Hill noted Trump has called on Congress to repeal Obamacare and vowed a replacement would be quickly introduced.
The Senate passed a budget resolution — which is being viewed as an initial step to roll back the law, the website reported.
