Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake has been slow to warm to Donald Trump's pending nomination for president, but said Wednesday he likes
reports that Indiana Gov. Mike Pence may be Trump's pick as running mate.
Pence as vice president would be the "best choice Donald Trump's made so far,"
Flake told Politico when asked about the reports.
Flake has been critical of Trump's call to build a wall along the Mexician border and his call to ban Muslim immigration. He also has expressed concerns over Trump saying Arizona's senior Sen. John McCain was not a war hero because he had been captured.
McCain spent more than five years inside the infamous "Hanoi Hilton" prison camp during the Vietnam War.
Flake was among a group of Capitol Hill Republican who met with Trump last month where he told the presumptive nominee he still has those concerns. Trump responded by telling Flake he would likely lose his re-election bid, and Flake responded he isn't up for election this year.
Flake is among a group of GOP senators who have said
they won't attend next week's convention to see Trump crowned the party nominee. Flake said he will be busy mowing his lawn.
