Campaign senior adviser Jason Miller said Sunday President Donald Trump had a personal message to deliver as he’s being treated for COVID-19: "Be careful."
In an interview on ABC News’ "This Week," Miller said the president made it clear following everyone has to follow the advice that has been consistently given to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
"He said something that was important and that’s to be careful," Miller said of his conversation with the hospitalized president. "To make sure that folks are washing hands, to make sure using hand sanitizer, to make sure they're wearing a mask if you can't socially distance."
Miller said when Trump does return to the campaign trail, "it’s going to be a slingshot taking us forward."
"He said a couple of really important things I want to make sure that I share with the American public that are watching this morning," he said. "Number one, that we're going to defeat this virus. President Trump personally is going to defeat it. As a nation, we're going to defeat it and get life back to normal. Get this vaccine."
"But then also our campaign is going to defeat it. And I think when President Trump …gets back to the White House and back on the campaign trail, it's going to be a slingshot taking us forward," he said.
Miller said all precautions were taken to protect Trump — even at his rallies.
"We take it very seriously. It's why we give everyone coming to rallies or to events, we give them a mask. We check their temperature," he said.
And Miller vowed the the campaign will be forging ahead this week, noting polls that show Trump lagging have been wrong before.
"These polls, these national polls, sometimes are inaccurate, or they're not sampling the right people, or they're not getting the right spreads," he asserted, adding: "The whole upper Midwest is what this thing could come down to."
According to Miller, the campaign is launching "Operation MAGA" this week while Trump continues treatment and recovery.
"We're going to be fanning out all over the country following the vice president's debate on Wednesday, also combined with a number of virtual events. We're going to have our first big kickoff virtual event Monday night," he said.
