Sen. Lankford to Newsmax: 'Woke' US Firms Kowtowing to China

By    |   Tuesday, 14 February 2023 10:03 PM EST

Many American companies are more interested in profits than principle when it comes to dealing with China, Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., tells Newsmax.

As one example, "the NBA makes more money in China than they do in the United States; they will never allow any NBA athletes ever say anything negative about China," Lankford said Tuesday on "Eric Bolling: The Balance."

Speaking out against China seemingly has real consequences.

Enes Kanter Freedom is a former NBA player who blames the nonrenewal of his contract on his public stance against Chinese leader Xi Jinping, along with the oppression of Muslim and other minorities in that country.

In October 2021, China responded by refusing to stream games of the NBA's Boston Celtics, who had Kanter Freedom on the roster back then.

"What we're seeing is American companies in their wokeism that they're not only going woke on the American people, but they're now buying into Chinese disinformation and, quite frankly, ignoring Chinese human rights issues," Lankford added.
