Rep. Jackie Speier says President Donald Trump's tweets make the U.S. "less safe" and his Twitter account should be shut down.

"I think his Twitter account should be shut down, and he should listen to the experts who he is surrounded by who have really important information to share with him, rather than getting all of his information from one outlet that has a particular bias," the California Democrat said Thursday on CNN's "Situation Room."

The congresswoman referred to Fox News, a network that Trump has praised.

"This should send out a huge red flag to every American, because what we now have is someone who is acting as the president, he's a reality president, who watches Fox News, and based on what he hears there, he tweets," Speier said.

Speier noted tweets that Trump posted Thursday where he first criticized a reauthorization of a segment of the FISA Act, then sent a second tweet walking back that comment.

The congresswoman has critiqued Trump for his Twitter habits before, saying "he has to be muzzled on Twitter."
