White House chief of staff has scoffed at Ivanka Trump's paid family leave as a "pet project," but nonetheless created some bandwidth to work on it, Axios reports.
John Kelly's pushback was that paid family leave didn't fit into President Donald Trump's agenda, even though the issue does have some support on Capitol Hill from even conservatives, Axios reports.
Ivanka has found a playing partner in Sen. Marco Rubio who is championing the issue on Capitol Hill on an issue that is normally advocated by Democrats.
Sens. Mike Lee and Joni Ernst support it and Freedom Caucus chair Rep. Mark Meadows is open to it, Axios reports.
